Organ Transplantation is the process of replacing a damaged or missing organ from one body to another body or from a donor site to another person's body. Organs or tissues that are transplanted within the same person's body are called autografts and when from a different person is called allograft. It can either be from cadaveric source or living donor.
Organs that can be transplanted in a human body are kidneys, liver, heart, lungs, pancreas and intestines. Transplantation medicine is a complex branch of medicine. The most prominent complications to manage can be transplant rejection due to the body.immune response to foreign body leading to transplant failure. The problem can be reduced by finding the most appropriate donor-recipient match and through use of immunosuppressant drugs.
